10 Oaxaca City hostels that we love [best for solo travel] | Mexico Insider (2024)

While there are many Oaxaca City hostels, I’ve frequented the ones on this list because I visit Oaxaca three times a year. From US$11 per night (decent, I promise you that), here are some of the options on where to stay in Oaxaca.

Oaxaca is a city with great infrastructure so you’ll find an Oaxaca hostel that will fit your budget. This city is also known for its impressive interior so most of the best hostels in Oaxaca have great interiors!

All these hostels in Oaxaca on the list have a kitchen. I know you love to cook especially if you’re traveling Oaxaca on a budget so don’t worry about that! They also have common areas, spaces to work, and even TV rooms!

As for location, the majority of the best Oaxaca hostels are in the center. I put the location on each of the items so you’ll see how close you are to the important landmarks.

📍 How to know if your hostel in Oaxaca is well-located

Oaxaca is a big city so when choosing your Oaxaca hostel, the best point of interest in the center is the Zocalo. That is if you really want to be in the center.

Andador Turistico is also a great spot because this is where all the cafes, restaurants, and important landmarks are. Although it is not that far from the Zocalo.

Put any of these two locations on Google maps and check directions to the hostel of your choosing. I suggest using the walking route on the maps to save on Uber trips. Oaxaca is a very walkable city so you’d like to have access to your hostel on foot!

🛎️ Platforms to use your Oaxaca hostel

I exclusively use Hostelworld when booking hostels anywhere in the world. You don’t need to pay the full amount and your reservation is always secured.

I’ve had many bad experiences with other platforms where they said my booking didn’t go through. Hostelworld always gives me 100% confirmation without a hassle!

🌟 What is the best Oaxaca hostel?

With the Selina branding’s popularity, you might think that this is the best hostel in Oaxaca but personally, I super love Casa Anghel Oaxaca. It’s so cheap for what it is, I feel like I am staying in a boutique hotel instead of a hostel!

Another thing I like about Casa Anghel is that there’s an opportunity to meet people. Some hostels in Oaxaca are so big that people tend to be anti-social.

As a solo traveler and digital nomad, finding people to connect with when I am traveling is really important for me!
