How to use Travelex? ›

Arrive at the ATM and insert your bank card. Select a currency and check the exchange rate on the screen, along with the total amount you'll receive (you'll have the option to cancel your transaction at this step should you change your mind). Receive your currency and enjoy your trip!

We operate over 800 Travelex ATMs around the world. Our ATMs allow customers to purchase foreign or local currency simply by using their card. This self-serve option provides exchange rates displayed on screen and currency that is dispensed in less than a minute.

Formerly part of now-defunct Finablr, Travelex's fortunes quickly turned due to the coronavirus pandemic and a cyberattack that forced it to temporarily disable its systems. It then went through a pre-pack administration that led to more than 1,300 job losses and saw its creditors seize control.

Travelex has better online rates than your bank so you can lock in a good initial loading rate and save. Plus they don't charge you ATM fees while you're overseas. Unfortunately, all of these conveniences comes with a high price tag.

Travelex is the world's largest retail foreign exchange specialist. You can find us in 1,400 Bureau de Change outlets principally located in airports and tourist locations in over 100 airports, across 26 countries.

Travelex have a number of handy store locations including the airport - but it's not your cheapest option. Exchange rates in-store aren't as good as online unless you are doing a larger amount over $2,000 and are prepared to negotiate. Even then, they may not offer you a rate as good as their own website.

How much foreign currency can I purchase or how much can I load on a Travelex Money Card? PURCHASE online: You can order between $350 and $5,000. Orders containing Cash for store pick up have a minimum order value of $350.

If your itinerary includes countries outside of the eurozone, you can choose from 50+ cash currencies. Buy before you fly and collect in-store or get free home delivery (Travelex Money Card only).

Some providers may charge you for using your card abroad, but we do not charge spending fees³ on our Travelex Money Card.

Before your trip, it's best to do a currency exchange at your bank or credit union, which likely offers better rates and fewer and/or lower fees. Your bank or credit union may buy back leftover foreign currency in exchange for dollars when you return.
